View Full Version : Measured current draw, PowerFlarm Brick

PF manual does not list typical power consumption. Because PowerFlarm
can supply power to other devices, this is a variable figure. The
manual says only "up to 1.2 Watts", or 1 amp at 12V. That's rather a
lot, so I decided to check. My PF brick is connected to a Butterfly
57mm flarm panel display and ClearNav (via serial port). I measure
170 mA at 12.4 VDC, which is reassuringly small.

That would be 100mA at 12V.

Did you make independent measurements?, Based on the quoted measurement and assuming ideal power behavior it would be ~165mA at 12.0 VDC.
Actual power consumption will depend to some extent on the environment (e.g. other equipped gliders nearby etc.).

Me? I have not measured anything. I only stated that 1.2W at 12V
requires current draw of 100mA, not 1A.

You're right, of course.
I got busy reading about a few hundred milliamps for this in, 500 for
that (at +3 or +5V, not 12) and slipped the decimal. Oops.
In any case, 170 mA is a pretty good measurement. That's sitting in
my driveway with GPS and flarm transmission active, no threats.
